Army Emblem

MARIO D. CALVARESE, age 87, of Toughkenamon, PA, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2012, at the Christiana Hospital, Newark, DE. He was the husband of Vera Gaspari Calvarese who passed away in 1986, and with whom he shared 29 years of marriage.

Born in West Chester, PA , he was the son of the late Gaspare and Flavia Mattioni Calvarese.

He was a self employed Mushroom Grower.

He was a member of St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Mother Church.

Mario served his country in the US Army during World War II. He served in the First Engineering Special Brigade, 3939th QM Gas Supply Co. Mario fought in four major battles, Normandy, The Battle of the Bulge, Ardens and Tiger Maneuvers.

He also sang in two Barber Shop quartets, The Country Lads and The Four Star Edition.

Mario was in the Kennett Old Timers Baseball Hall of Fame.

He is survived by two sons, Matthew Calvarese and Mario Calvarese both of Toughkenamon, PA; one daughter, Monica Quann and her husband Thom of Landenberg, PA.

You are invited to visit with his family and friends from 9:30 to 10:30, Saturday, January 21, 2012, at St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Mother Church, 8910 Gap Newport Pike (Route 41), Avondale, PA. His funeral Mass will follow at 10:30. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Kennett Square, PA.
